Ben our CNC
engineer has been our main First Aider for many years, however, with some staff
changes we needed another member to join the first aid squad within Ceramic Substrates and Components Ltd.
We require
a first aider on the premises during working hours, so having a back-up to
cover when another first aider is not there especially when one is on annual
leave is the only option so when the opportunity came up for some more
training on the Island we sent one of our employee’s on the 3 day course. In
this case Belinda, one of our office team members was chosen to join the course
and become a certified first aider.
Belinda did enjoy the course
and learned a lot, not just about accidents which can occur in the workplace
but also at home. Helping people and to give immediate attention to the injured
party, calling an ambulance in serious cases, can prevent minor injuries
becoming major ones and even save lives, as stated in the leaflets of HSE.
We can see Belinda putting a
practice pressure bandage on a hand injury to Chris, this is practiced in the
factory at work stations to make it as real as possible.
