Recycling and Waste Management

Here at Ceramic Substrates & Components Ltd. we are proud to be a British manufacturer of Industrial Ceramics with a dedicated workforce all based on the Isle of Wight.

The Isle of Wight has been on the forefront with our progressive thinking regarding social, economic and environmental sustainability for the current and future generations of Islanders.
As a manufacturer we have responsibilities regarding waste materials which can come in many shapes and forms from cardboard, coolant/machining fluid, plastic drink cups, aluminium drink cans, printer cartridges etc.
In the last twenty four months or so, we have changed our waste management with the more “Eco Island” approach in mind. Change is not always simple, takes time and planning before Implementation with all the right paperwork, making sure that all environmental guidelines are met. Running an Isle of Wight business differs from a mainland business due to the logistics involved, narrowing the solutions available.

We are happy that Veolia Environmental Services, one of the UK's leading recycling and waste management company, can help us with the responsible disposal /recycling of the bye products used in the manufacturing of Industrial Ceramic Components.

They have provided us with 1000litre IBC’s to empty our coolants in directly and they will be collected when full and replaced ensuring no spillage and responsible disposal.

We also have drums for oil, spillage granules and a special container for the disposal of used Fluorescent tubes as found at most workplace s in the UK.

We send a lot of packages all over the world everyday but also receive a lot of packages. We are left with a lot of cardboard and again we wanted to find a green way of disposing/recycling helping the Island community. We were pleasantly surprised to find an Island based company Wight Reclamation Ltd who collect cardboard and uses it to make animal bedding.

We have also located a company who recycle plastic, turning it into Tongue & Groove Boards, Profiles and Ground Reinforcement Blocks. The company is called Agri-Cycle Ltd. they have a depot here on the Island with their processing a plant based in Lincolnshire.

We hope by sharing this information with you it shows that we, as an Island based company, are working hard to make a bit of Carisbrooke “Eco Island” friendly and we commit to improve and will continue in our efforts where at all possible.
