Tooling

Over the past two months we have seen a steady increase in the use of ceramics needing tooling from our In House Tooling Department, which is managed by one of our Senior Engineers Chris Gibson. Chris is responsible for design, advice of material for the tool and the time that they would spend on constructing the tool.  Chris has been unfortunate to see the holiday period go by in a flash for he has been busy manufacturing and designing new tools. Chris is a well known character in the factory and gives free advice on a vast array of technical or other issues you might have.  Being versatile and flexible has always been one of Chris’s strong points within the team of Ceramic Substrates, creating the tools to press ceramics to fine tolerances is not something you learn overnight.  When an order is received that requires a new tool there is a vast array of correspondence involved starting with the office. The end result will be rigorously tested in several batch runs to test tolerance and dimensions  before the first production run is made.
