Chamber of Commerce

20 years member certificate
This week a package arrived, this is not unusual, as packages are delivered and sent out on a daily basis. This was a package with difference as it contained a certificate from the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce. This was in recognition of 20 years of supporting the Isle of Wight business community as a member of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce. In the last 20 years we have worked closely with the Chamber of Commerce with regards to export certificates of origin and relevant signed paperwork needed for certain countries all around the world. They assist in all kinds of ways, advising and promoting Ceramic Substrates within the business community. For our customers being a member of a Chamber of Commerce also helps in giving you that confidence that you are dealing with a company that has been established for over 40 years.

Shapal-M Soft

This week has seen the arrival of another large slab of Machinable Aluminium Nitride Shapal-M Soft.  (SHAPAL™-M is a trademark of Tokuyama Corporation). Shapal is just one of the machinable ceramics that we can offer as a bespoke machining service.  Characteristics of SHAPAL-M Soft are; Excellent Machinability, High Thermal Conductivity, High Mechanical Strength, Electrical Insulation, Low Thermal Expansion, Low Dielectric Loss, Good High Temperature Properties and Vacuum Applications. We also stock BNP-2 (spec sheet here), which is similar to Shapal-M Soft.   As we manufacture our own range of ceramics and we stock a wide range of machinable ceramics we are a one-stop shop as the saying goes, for all your industrial ceramics.  With our extensive range of ceramics and services, we fully understand that lead-time is important and we stride to deliver on time or earlier where possible.  There are many occasions when a customer urgently requires ceramic components and we do our up most to fulfil their needs within a very short time frame.  We offer a rapid prototype, low volume, or a one off service if a deadline needs to be met. If you want to know how fast we are able to deliver please contact us on ++44(0)1983 528697 or Email us info@ceramic-substrates.co.uk.

Rainbow man

Running a manufacturing business is a challenge on a daily basis, most of the time this is a positive experience. To keep it all moving in an encouraging direction when we are faced with new challenges takes teamwork. Being one of the last manufacturers of industrial ceramics in the UK we are dealing with a lot of enquires on a daily basis and our team here at Ceramic Substrates work very closely together. Having a bit of a laugh/comedy moments are of course part of any workforce and workplace. This week Richard has provided our entertainment! Richard, our Charge Hand, normally packs your ceramics to make sure they arrive safely. However, we have been smiling all week, it was for a charity event, but Richard just loves his new style! Although he is very disappointed for there was no pot of gold on the end of the rainbow

Thank you Richard for providing the entertainment!

Uplifting

Over the past two weeks, there has been a great deal of work being carried out in our factory. Our custom ceramics division department (pressed and extrusions) has seen an upsurge in orders and enquires. Sean, Jon and Chris have all been on annual leave of late and are now back to the challenges of making sure that quality and delivery schedules are met in the forthcoming months. Everyone at Ceramic Substrates, as always, has put in huge efforts over the last twelve months and feel positive about the future. We have invested in some new CNC lathes and other equipment already over the past year, but there is always room for improvement in areas that investment has not been vast. However, I have just sourced a new surface grinder, which we shall use for the finishing of certain ceramic components.

Our new forklift
It is also a sad week for we say goodbye to an old friend that has been with us for the last 20 years. She was hard working, a bit temperamental at times but well looked after; however, it is time to say our goodbyes and move on. From next week, we will welcome her replacement, which has more and new features like for instance PAS. As you might have guessed by now this is not a person but a machine. It is our forklift truck replacement, which has been test driven by Sean and will be welcomed by us all soon. Furthermore, we have a new Factory Operative starting on Monday, Sharon will be back from holiday and thankfully, Belinda’s cold is getting better.

More from me in two weeks.
