Cowes Week 31 July - 7 August 2010

The famous twenty-two brass cannons outside the RYC

This week we are experiencing our yearly sailing extravaganza Cowes Week, our Island is swamped with sailors and tourists who come to watch and race, during this classic sailing event. Cowes week is a boost for tourism and local economy for our Island.

This week at Ceramic Substrates we have not been sailing but working hard on orders and new projects. Some of our customers have shut down over the last few weeks, but as we now operate in a global market we have not noticed a slowdown in enquires or our order intake.

We have been working on our new database, which takes time entering years of information, let’s face it no one likes doing a job twice? This past week I have been having a small bout of summer flu, or as my female staff will tell me “He-man Flu because you men never just have a cold?” Anyway, they show no sympathy and just keep piling the work on my desk insisting on a quick return of questions or quotes. Our new office software is making communication between myself and the office staff easier and more time efficient, “there is no place to hide”.

We also had a photo shoot in the factory yesterday; this was announced the day before on our new Facebook page. The photo shoot was related to ceramics and some of our staff left at 16.45pm disappointed on what might have been. There is no getting away from Facebook with millions of users worldwide on a daily basis. We thought a Ceramic Substrates Facebook page (click here to visit) would be good for our employees old and new to have a chat, as we are from a small Island many people have who know our company have already joined. Our page will have some ceramic materials posted on it, but is mainly used as a social outlet/platform for anyone who wants to join, either related to the company in the past and present or friends and family members.
