Prototyping

Roger at work

In our fast changing world today with high speed internet access, Google, Yahoo and Bing rule the roost when it comes to reaching, creating and maintaining a customer base. The role of the Salesman has definitely changed over the years with less emphasis on the driving round visiting customers. Since the beginning of the year we have increased our online presence significantly resulting in positive changes. We have noticed in the past year an increase in demand from new customers for prototypes as in one or two off’s or further smaller batches. As ceramic manufacturers we have responded to this challenge with the investment in new machines and re-training the skilled workforce to continue to deliver to a very high standard.

One of our skilled members “Roger” (also known as Captain) a tooling and machine shop engineer, has been working for Ceramic Substrates and Components Ltd for over 15years. Before us, Roger worked at Vikoma as a machine shop engineer. Roger makes and designs his own cutting tools for the special projects or prototypes that will be made by hand using lathes, drilling machines, grinders and other custom made tools.

Pyrophyllite, R197, PRE68,Macor and Graphite are just a few materials that he deals with on a daily basis. Roger will sometimes work with our Head of Tooling, Chris and of course with the Head of the CNC Department Jon. Together they have a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to deliver to the best standard of workmanship in the UK ceramic manufacturers industry.

Roger is valued and cherished by the whole team at Ceramic-Substrates and is always there to help or give advice.

More from me next week.
