Pyrophyllite is a metamorphic mineral and introduced in 1932 to the UK by founders of what is now known as Ceramic Substrates and Components Ltd.
Pyrophyllite is quarried and not blasted, but cut to stop the mineral cracking. It is a very versatile machinable ceramic (also known as Aluminium Silicate and unique to us as Ceramit 10/14) It has good thermal shock resistance and can be used in high temperatures and becoming vitreous.
Here at Ceramic Substrates we can honestly say that Pyrophyllite is one of the materials that we have extensive knowledge of, more so than our competitors.
This includes research and development and to this day it is still an ongoing process of experiments and comprehension, even though we have been using this material in both the family firms for 75 years. Pyrophyllite is sometimes overlooked by other companies for they do not know it exists, let alone its uses.
You can e-mail or talk to us about your requirements regarding all the ceramics we stock and we will assist with our knowledge and practice in making sure you have the right material for your requirements.
Pyrophyllite can also be bought unfired in many different shapes and sizes for the customer who wishes to machine and heat treat their own components.
